RR

So one of my friends, Lindsey is going to be on the Rachel Ray show (RR) . Not in the studio audience, but doing a cooking segment every Monday in November. The segment is called "Hey, Can You Cook!?" She sent in a home video and she was chosen....crazy. Its a food cooking competition.

I will tell you a little about this wonderful woman, she is married and has 3 beautiful kids. She is in my book club and we also attend a mom's bible study group every Thursday (we aren't in the same group). I asked her if I could write about her going to NY and she said yes. She gets back next week and I can't wait to hear about her experience. So, my friends tune into RR every Monday in November and you can see one of my real life friends on TV....this is so exciting!!! Have fun Lindsey and we will be watching!!!

I should buy a lottery ticket

I couple of weeks ago I got a post card in the mail informing me that I need to renew my drivers license. Unfortunately a new law has passed and I can't just mail in a check. I have to pack up both kids, put on make-up for a new picture and go down and show them multiple documents that I am who I say I am.

I was ready for the long haul, we have all been to the DMV and know how long it can take. Are you ready for the most amazing part.....I walked in, got a number, went straight to counter number 5, showed said documents, wrote out check, sat down for 30 seconds....not exaggerating, my name was called, signed more papers, picture was taken and I was done. They gave me a temporary card until my real one comes in the mail in about 7-10 business days.

I was in there for maybe 5-10 minutes, seriously I have never seen the DMV so empty in my life and this was right before lunch.

Maybe this new law isn't so bad after all?

These are about half to a quarter of the kids who's parent's are apart of our group at church.

Seattle Trip

We took a trip to Seattle to visit with my brother Bill and my SIL Danielle. They along with my Dad were attending a wedding. We lived next door to the groom and his family for 6 years during middle school and high school. He also has a sister that is the same age as me and we were friends in high school. It was funny because we didn't originally go to the wedding because we didn't have childcare for our kiddos, but Ross (the groom) insisted that we come, even though we weren't dressed for a sit down wedding dinner. We had a great time, caught up with our old neighbors who now live in Arizona and the kids danced their hearts out.

All these picture's were taken on Saturday before the wedding.

When we travel overnight with Lincoln he must take all his animals and blankets, so here he is with all his stuff.

10 homemade laundry soap detergent recipes also includes liquid and powder recipes.

This is the one I'm going to try. Making Homemade Laundry Soap by Crystal Miller

I can't reproduce the recipe here because it is copyright protected.

My Super Duper Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party....in the making

For my 30th birthday I was breastfeeding and didn't feel like having a party. So, my awesome husband said, "when you turn 32 we will have a super duper sweet sixteen party for you!" I instantly loved the idea and for 2 years have been waiting for my birthday.

Then I went to visit my brother Bill in N.C. and my sister in law Danielle was having a party at the church for the girls and it was thrift store prom themed. I knew that would be the theme for my party. I changed theme a little so it would be 80's thrift store prom.

So, in 4 weeks my friends will have found the perfect 80's prom dress at various local thrift shops around town. We will commence at our house for dinner and prom picture's and then we will go bowling.

The things I need to do to get ready for the party are to create a backdrop for the prom pictures. I'm thinking garden scene or big city lights. Or a black background with a balloon arch. What do you all think?

Click away

DONATE A MAMMOGRAM (COSTS YOU NOTHING!)

A favor to ask, it only takes a minute....
The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota (45,000 clicks) of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window).

This doesn't cost you a thing and you don't have to give any
Information.

Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammograms in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Operation ----- Operation

I just got off the phone with my Dad and my Mom's friend has 3 cracked vertebrae!!!! I'm so glad that they listened to their instincts and got Janet out of Bosnia in an air ambulance.
Okay, so Janet is currently having an MRI and will have surgery today or tomorrow and will be staying in Austria for about a week.

My Mom has checked out of her hotel and is currently trying to find a flight home. My Dad has been on the phone all morning trying to change her old ticket so they don't have to buy a new ticket, hopefully the airline will be understanding considering the circumstances.

Nervous Energy

Nervous energy is what I have. My wonderful cleaning lady came today and usually I leave, but I didn't even shower until an hour ago. I cleaned with Sally, granted I moved slower than she did and she did do most of the work but it felt good. I also love talking to Sally, she is like an Aunt...she knows a lot and has lots of great advice.

After she left I finally got ready for the day and decided to make homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. The chicken is almost done thawing, its a whole chicken, I will use it to make the stock too. It's my Mom's recipe and it is sooooo good.

FYI--This is not a quick recipe, it could be if you already had the stock frozen or used store bought chicken stock, but truthfully nothing tastes as good as homemade.

Homemade chicken noodle soup:
  • Boil whole chicken, add some onions, and carrots(you don't have to) also add some chicken bouillon cubes....boil until it falls off the bone....could take a couple of hours.
  • Strain and/or separate the stock from the chicken.
  • Next take out all the bones by hand....takes a while, this will also shred the chicken into smaller bite size pieces.
  • Add meat, 1 cup of carrots & celery, 1 medium onion, and some garlic to the stock.
  • Cook on low heat for several hours.
Homemade noodles:
  • 4-5 eggs
  • about 2 cups of whole wheat flour or all purpose flour.
  • In my family we use a lot of flour so there is no sticking and we don't dry the noodles either.
  • kneed and then roll out and turning until the dough is thin.
  • I prefer rolling the dough like a jellyroll and cut them that way.
  • Since we use a lot of flour we give them a little bath in boiling water and then add them to the soup. My Grandma says its because she likes a thinner broth and it rinses the extra flour off.
  • Cut thinly because they will get bigger once you cook them.
Add the noodles to the soup 20 minutes before you are going to serve.

Enjoy!!! Serves A lot!!!

Vienna -update-

I know that they left Bosnia. We have not heard from them since they have arrived in Austria.
My Dad told me that at the last minute they were told that they couldn't bring their luggage. So they took their valuables and camera and layered up on clothes and left the rest behind. We are hoping that the tour guide can mail the bags back to the United States. My Mom is staying in a hotel tonight and so hopefully we will hear from here soon.

My Mom just called and they are in Vienna and her friend is at the hospital. We still don't know what is causing her intense pain in her back but hopefully they will soon. There ended up being plenty of room on the airplane, and all the luggage made it. There were even empty seats and an extra gurney, so I'm thinking that it wasn't a Learjet, it was something larger. My Mom is now at a hotel trying to get some rest and then back to the hospital.

One of the doctor's on the plane who was very young said that the x-rays don't show anything and her husband said that he wouldn't take much stock in them since the doctor had to kick the x-ray machine to get it to work!!

When I get more news I will let you know.

Thanks for your prayers!!

Operation......get out

So, it is not a large airplane that will have an ambulance on board, its an air ambulance airplane that has the capabilities of an ICU and is fully staffed with medical personnel. They leave at 5am Tuesday morning our time, 2pm there time. The flight should only take about an hour or so.

I will update again when I get more information.

Continue to pray.

Thank you!

Bosnia update

Okay, so they were going to be transported in a helicopter, then a jet, and now it is a big enough airplane to hold an ambulance. It will fly into a city 20 minutes from where they are. The ambulance will then drive off and pick them up and then drive back to the airport and fly them all to Vienna. The airplane is coming from a NATO airbase, not sure on the exact location. The airport doesn't open until 2:30am Tuesday morning so they should be picked up around 3am.

I'll keep you posted.

--- Prayer in Bosnia & Vienna --- update at end

I had this great post I was going to write about, seeing my brother and his wife over the weekend in Seattle and all the fun we had....which we did. But something else has happened that I must tell you all about. I will post the other picture's once this ordeal has calmed down.

Okay, last Tuesday my Mom left for Bosnia with her very good and long time friend, her friends husband and her friends sister's to go to Mudugorje. That is a place where people have seen the virgin Mary, we aren't catholic but my Mom's friend is and having the opportunity to go she took it.

I think it was Saturday Morning or afternoon their time, my Mom's friend, (we will call her Janet) was taking a picture and needed to back up to get a better shot and when she did, she didn't notice a small wall at about knee height. The fell backwards, did a complete backwards flip down a 10 foot cliff and landed on her back. Her head landed between two rocks and was a miracle she didn't hit either one.

Took her to the hospital by ambulance, they x-rayed her and they said she doesn't have any broken bones. However, the x-ray machine was probably from when they were first invented and can't be trusted. The lights at the hospital were hanging down by a single electrical wire and wasn't a place where you would want to be taken care of.

They discharged her and they all went back to where they were staying. It became clear to my Mom (who has broken her back) that something else wasn't right and that they needed to get her out of the country to another hospital with more training.

She called my Dad, who called our State's Republican National committee woman, who called our Congressman's assistant, who called the U.S. Embassy. (You also should know that Janet is a very well respected local lobbyist and my Mom use to be a State Senator). They were hitting some red tape when the Congressman had an idea, he knows personally a man who owns an international helicopter company that has office's all over the world. He called him and told them of the situation and he said that he could help them. He also knows Janet and my Mom.

The hard part about this is that we don't have a phone number that we can call my Mom, so we are waiting for her to call us, so we can give her the good news. Meanwhile, the owner calls me on my cell (how he got my number I'm not sure) and said, "if your Mom has any problems with the office that is helping them to please call him on his personal cell phone and he will take care of it".

My Mom calls my Dad, he relays all the information, and my Mom calls this number and the lady says that only Janet can go and she said, well the owner said that 3 of us are going, (Janet, her husband and my Mom.) And you can call him on his personal cell to verify that. She puts my Mom on hold and comes back and says, no you are right, the 3 of you will be picked up in the morning (Monday) and be flown to Vienna, Austria.

Can you imagine, being in Bosnia, you can't sit up, you can't take the pain medicine because you are allergic and they don't have the right ones for you. All the pain she is in, she can't do anything. This woman has built so many trusted relationships over the years and all these amazing people that are coming together to help her. This is such a God thing!!!

I was able to speak to my Mom at 11pm Sunday night her time, and let her know all the amazing things that are being done to get Janet the help she needs. She cried and said that she can't believe it either. She then told me to call the owner of the helicopter company back and to thank him, and let him know they are going to Vienna in the morning. I told my Mom I loved her and she said she loved me too and that she would call me when she got to Vienna and we hung up.

I called the owner on his cell and he said, "yes, is this Marylin's daughter (that's my mom's name), I said yes it is and I just wanted to let you know that I talked with my Mom and that they are being picked up tomorrow morning and being flow to Vienna, Austria. He said good, and I thanked him and told him my Mom was crying she was so grateful for what he is doing. He said well, we need to get those girls out of there and he was glad he could help.

Again, I feel like I'm in some movie, this is all very surreal. Please pray for Janet, for their safety as they fly to Vienna on a helicopter, its about a 350 mile flight. My friend Shana the helicopter pilot said it would take about 3 hours or less. Pray that things go smoothly and that Janet gets the care she needs.

I will update when I hear from my Mom.

update ~~ Just talked to my Dad and he called the US office that is coordinating the rescue and they have not left yet, he did find out they are being transported in an air ambulance. She assured my Dad that they will be leaving Bosnia today. Right now its 4:15pm on Monday Bosnia time.
