The final Sock Monkey Quilts

Here is Haley's quilt laid out as I was trying to figure out how I wanted things to go.

Pressing the seams as you go, I split mine instead of pressing them to one side, I find that it helps reduce bulk.

They are sewed into rows that are diagonal.

All done, I turned the quilt instead of sewing on a satin binding.

The super soft chenille fabric with the little bumps is what the kids really loved. Haley named her quilt Chocolate Monkey.

Reagan's laid out into a pattern I liked.

After sewing them into rows, and sewing on the border, I laid down the batting, then the backing right side facing up, then the quilt top wrong side facing up. Pin all the way around leaving a gap between 8-10 inches depending on big your quilt is. Sew it, trim it, turn it right side out and then hand sew the opening with a blind or slip stitch. Not sure if that is the right name of the stitch. I did find that when I used the chenille fabric as a border, it naturally curved in, so I didn't need to pin it closed in order to sew it closed.

All done, at around 12:30am on December 26th. That's right I didn't get it finished in time for Christmas morning. But I did put in on Miss Reagan's bed and when she woke up she found it and was thrilled.

I'm not bragging

So, I have been dieing to tell someone other than Tim and my Mother. This hasn't happened to me since I was in the 9th grade. I went to old Navy today to buy some new jeans and the ones that fit me that didn't hurt when I wore them (you know what I'm talking about ladies) .....are you ready for this.....it makes me giggle ......a size 4!!! I don't mean to brag, but it has been a very long time since I have owned a pair of size 4 jeans. I know its just a number and its probably a size 6 every where else, but it sure does make me feel good!!

Pictures from Christmas

We didn't get to see our normal Santa because of the weather. The kids told Santa what they wanted and that they had been good kids all year. They loved it!!

Christmas Eve at my parents home. Tim had to work and got caught in some traffic so we didn't make it to church. However, we had a really nice time with them. Reagan was Santa's helper and passed out all the gifts.

Lincoln got the Handy Many truck and tools from my parents, he loves playing with it and using all the different tools...it is pretty cool.

Christmas morning, Reagan got the bike she asked Santa for, she tells me all the time that the elf's did a very nice job making it.

Lincoln with the Pirate ship he asked Santa for, he has a very funny pirate voice and you can hear him saying "argh, argh, argh, me maties!" I love this age!!

Ditka getting a nice chewy bone for Christmas.

We celebrated Christmas Eve with Tim's mom & step dad on Saturday because his brother flew in from Hawaii the day before. We had a very nice dinner and then opened presents. His step brother Jason and his 3 boys were there and Tracy one of his 3 step sisters.

Below is our niece Haley and sister in law Leah.

Reagan in her pretty Christmas dress, she is waiting for Uncle Jason to read the Christmas Story out of the Bible.

Lincoln and Ben listening to the story. We had a great time. I will post picture's soon of Reagan and Haley's quilts. But I'm to tired. It has taken me 3 days to write this post and it isn't even very long.

Frozen.....I forgot something else

I forgot, I was going to start this out by saying, what do you do when you are stuck at home and you can't play outside because everything is a frozen ice wonderland..... You build a fort.
We built this right in front of the fireplace added all the pillows from the guest room and the nice big down comforter....and we colored, played Lego's, read books...it was fun.

The other thing you do when you are stranded at home....Tim made homemade spaghetti and meatballs...they were so good and they made the house smell sooooo good.

This football froze last night on our storage box, not sure how it happened but it sure is cool.

Ditka ice skating.

This is how the tree's looked this morning in our backyard.

This is how they look around 4pm, I sure hope they don't break. Our friends had the tree in there front yard break under the pressure of all the ice, and it was a much larger tree than ours....it was a total loss.

Playing in the snow

It has been snowing here for over 12 hours now and we have about 5 inches of snow. The kids and I played out in it for over an hour and had so much fun building this guy below.

Looking down our street.

Me watching the neighbors....yup I spy at times ;)

Its done

All that is left with Lincoln's to tie on the yarn. Here are some pictures, the one below is after I sewed all the pieces together minus the border.

I messed up on one of the corners but at this point it doesn't bother me.

Only 2 quilts left to make....and it is still snowing here. I have been stuck at home far to long, we live at the top of a hill and it makes it difficult for me to get out, I'm not as brave as Tim. I feel bad for the kids because last night the dog pooped like 5 times and we couldn't pick it up before it started to snow again and now there are hidden poops under the snow and I won't let them play in the back yard.....I know I'm a scrooge.

School is closed again and we have more snow!!! I'm going back to bed!!

Ditka got "fixed" yesterday and has been a very funny and confused dog ever since he has been back home. He has to wear that silly cone on his head and not that any dog likes wearing the cone but Ditka just doesn't know what to do with it on. When he bumps into something he just will stop and not move until prod him to move, mind you he isn't stuck. I can't tell if it is the meds or if he has really calmed down from the surgery but for right now he is a quieter puppy.....oh and by the way he weighs 34 pounds...almost bigger than Reagan.

First time sledding

We bought a sled on craigslist for $7.00 and it was worth every penny. Plus the lady had to drive by our house so she delivered it to us....score!!

Lincoln and I went first, so there is no picture of us sledding because Reagan was wearing mittens. So, here is Lincoln pushing Reagan down the hill.

One happy girl squealed all the way down the hill, we had so much fun!!!

School is canceled again for tomorrow, Reagan's Christmas program has been canceled and we have been playing in all this snow I have had no time for quilt making...what is a girl to do.

Its snowy & cold..... updated

It is about 23 degrees and we have about 2 to 3 inches of snow, the high tomorrow is suppose to be 26 degrees. It is so cold that it is difficult to form a snowball because of the lack of moisture....tomorrow we will have one big snowman!!!

Lincoln looking very cool in his winter coat.

We went back outside after it had been snowing for awhile and it was much colder than a few short hours before.

Ditka trying to eat the falling snowflakes, he really does try to.

I forgot to drop off and pick up Tim prescription, so I quickly drove down to the pharmacy and they filled it for me why I waited....only 20 minutes....and the roads where bare when I left. During that time it snowed so much that I almost didn't make it home, my tires were spinning the entire time up our very steep hill, but by God's grace I made it home.

Picture of home in snow storm without flash.

Picture of house using the flash.

One cold girl drinking hot chocolate, can you tell how cold she was....and she didn't want to come back inside. She did say that she wished we had less, because our friends couldn't come and stay with us, they are snowed in too. Hope to see you soon Scott & Shana.

sneak peak

Here is a sneak peak at Lincoln's Sock Monkey Quilt laid out, now I need to sew it.

Some backyard fun after the snow melted, Ditka was loving being outside with us and was acting pretty crazy. I put the camera on super fast mode to take the picture's of Ditka running around. Oh, and it has started to snow again.....yippee!!!

He is a funny dog, and we love him!!
